Sorana Cirstea Announces 2026 Will Be Her Final Season on Tour

Romanian tennis star Sorana Cirstea has announced that the upcoming 2026 season will be her last as a professional player, marking the end of a two-decade career.

The 35-year-old made the announcement via a heartfelt Instagram post, stating she wants to conclude her career on her own terms while still passionate about the sport.

A Career Revived and Celebrated

Cirstea, who reached a career-high ranking of World No. 21, has experienced a notable career resurgence in recent years. Her longevity and consistent results—including two Grand Slam quarterfinal appearances—have made her a respected figure on the WTA Tour.

Choosing to Leave on a High Note

In her announcement, Cirstea emphasized gratitude and conscious closure:

“I love tennis… I love the discipline, the routines, the hard work. The competition and the adrenaline fuel my soul. But like everything in life, it must come to an end.”

She clarified that this decision stems from a place of fulfillment, not burnout:

“The last couple of years have been my happiest on court… I have now decided that 2026 will be my last year on tour.”

One Final Dance

Cirstea framed the upcoming season not as a farewell, but as a victory lap:

“This is not a farewell, but a ‘see you one more time’… I hope to be able to achieve some of [my goals] next year and finish this wonderful career on a high note and on my terms.”

The 2026 season will be Cirstea’s 20th as a professional. She expressed deep appreciation for the sport that allowed “a 4-year-old girl, holding the racket for the first time, [to] live her dream.”

Fans worldwide will now have one final year to watch Cirstea’s powerful baseline game and unwavering competitive spirit as she takes her last lap around the tennis globe.
